Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer Before Booking
Use this checklist of questions to ask your photographer before booking, covering photography style, packages, coverage, pricing and more.

Choosing your wedding photographer is about more than finding photographs you love. You’re also choosing the person who’ll be there with you throughout a huge part of your wedding day.
Before you book, here are some questions worth asking to make sure you know exactly what you’re getting and that their approach feels right for you.
About their photography
☐ How would you describe your photography style?
☐ Can we see a few complete wedding galleries rather than just highlights?
☐ Have you photographed weddings similar to ours before?
☐ How do you approach portraits and group photographs?
☐ How much direction do you give on the day?
☐ Will you photograph the smaller, in-between moments as well as the main parts of the day?
About your photographer
☐ Will you personally be the photographer at our wedding?
☐ If there will be two photographers, who will the second photographer be?
☐ How do you work with couples who feel awkward or nervous in front of the camera?
☐ How would you describe your approach on a wedding day?
☐ What happens if you're ill or unable to photograph our wedding?
About coverage
☐ How much coverage would you recommend for our wedding?
☐ What parts of the day are included in the package?
☐ Can we add extra hours if we need them?
☐ What happens if the wedding runs later than planned?
☐ Can we add a second photographer if we decide we would like one?
☐ Is travel included in the price?
About your photographs
☐ Approximately how many edited photographs will we receive?
☐ How long will we wait for our final gallery?
☐ How will our photographs be delivered?
☐ Will we receive high-resolution files suitable for printing?
☐ How long will our online gallery be available?
☐ Can we share the gallery with family and friends?
☐ Can we order prints, albums or other products?
About the booking
☐ What's included in the total price?
☐ Is there a booking fee or deposit?
☐ When is the remaining balance due?
☐ What happens if we need to postpone our wedding?
☐ What happens if we need to cancel?
☐ Do you have a contract for us to read before booking?
And finally some questions to ask yourselves...
☐ Do we actually feel comfortable with this person?
☐ Do we genuinely love the photographs?
☐ Can we imagine having them around us on our wedding day?
☐ Have we read reviews from previous couples?
☐ Have we looked through enough of their work to know what our own wedding photographs could look like?
A final tip
Don't feel like you have to ask every single question on this list. Some will be answered when you speak to your photographer, and some simply won't matter to you.
The important thing is to understand what you're booking, know what's included and feel confident that you've found someone whose photographs, approach and personality all feel right for you.
